The Gijón Open will see Top-10 star Andrey Rublev in action

The current world No. 9 will be one of the main favorites to take the title at the Palacio de Deportes La Guía

Russian star Andrey Rublev, currently ranked No. 9, will be one of the top favorites to win the Gijón Open ATP 250 as the organization confirmed his participation this Sunday.

The 24-year-old player, born in Moscow, fell at the quarter-final stage at the US Open, matching his result from Roland Garros last May. Also a semi-finalist at the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells this year, Rublev has 11 ATP titles to his credit.

His last three wins have all come in 2022: in Marseille, Dubai and in Belgrade where he beat Novak Djokovic in the final in front of the Serb’s home fans.

He cracked the top 5 in 2021, thanks to his two Masters 1000 finals appearances in Monte-Carlo and Cincinnati.

With Rublev's confirmation, the list of international tennis stars to compete in Gijón continues to grow. Spaniards Pablo Carreño and Roberto Bautista have recently been joined by Italian Fabio Fognini, Belgian David Goffin and Austrian Dominic Thiem, a Grand Slam winner.

The official entry list for this first edition of the Gijón Open will be announced next week.
